Professor Chen taught 54 years in between East and West from 1956 to 2010 teaching in the areas of Physical Education, Sport, Leadership, Coaching, Pedagogy and Philosophy. He was a visiting professor at the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services, University of Northern Iowa, USA from 2005 to 2010 and a visiting professor at the National Hsinchu University of Education from Feb. to June 2010. He was a full time professor at the Graduate Institute of Sport Coaching Science, Chinese Culture University from 1993 to 2008, and a full time teaching staff from 1959 to 1970 and a part time professor at The National Taiwan Normal University from 2003 to 2008; He was teaching at the Dunedin College of Education from 1972 to 1993 and part time from 1993 to 2000, he is an Emeritus Principal Lecturer of the Dunedin College of Education now merged with University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.

 

Professor Chen was the gymnastic coach for the Republic of China at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games in Tokyo and Mexico and he was also a Scientific Committee Member for the Chinese Taipei Olympic Team to the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He was an International Gymnastic Judge from 1966 to 1976. He served as the New Zealand National Men’s Team Coach at the 1974 World Gymnastic Championship in Verna, Bulgaria and he also was the New Zealand Gymnastic Team manager and Men’s team coach at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada. He was elected President of New Zealand Gymnastic Association (NZGA) 1978 and the Principal of the National Gymnastic School, NZGA from 1978 to 1996.
